Streaming ENTERTAINMENT is $59.99 for the first month against an $89.99/mo. base price, and satellite packages are $89.99–$169.99/mo. for 24 months. None of those include taxes, the $10/mo. device or TV Access fee, or the Regional Sports Fee of up to $23.99/mo. on CHOICE and above.

What the headline price leaves out

Taxes and required fees sit outside every price DIRECTV advertises. Two of them move the monthly figure most: a $10/mo. fee, which is the Gemini device lease if you stream and the TV Access Fee if you take satellite, and from CHOICE upward a Regional Sports Fee of up to $23.99/mo. that depends on the market you move into. Satellite also carries a one-time $49.95 activation fee, and its advertised prices assume autopay and paperless billing.

You can see it in DIRECTV’s own fine print for satellite CHOICE: “$118.98/mo. w/req’d $10/mo. TV Access Fee & Regional Sports Fee of up to $23.99/mo.” That is the figure to plan the new household budget around, not the headline one.

Streaming prices (DIRECTV via Internet)

No annual contract, and a 5-day free trial comes first, which is handy while you are still unpacking. The first-month promotion knocks $30–$40 off, and smaller discounts carry on through month 24:

Satellite comes on a 24-month agreement with a 2-year price guarantee, so the advertised price stays the same for both years in the new home. Streaming makes no such promise:
